The Coronado Don

Coronado High School was named for the Spanish conquistador Francisco Vasquez de Coronado. A don is a name for a Spanish nobleman. Thus, the Coronado Don became the school mascot.

The Coronado Shield

The Coronado Shield has been a symbol of the school for many years. It was originally designed by Joe Gatti, who also created another symbol of the school, the mural on the Auditorium. Mr. Gatti was an art teacher at Coronado from its opening in 1961 through 1984. Mr. Gatti felt that this shield design really fit the idea of Coronado's namesake.
